We offer excellent rates of pay and experienced social workers who join us can expect a one-off £3,000 payment (pro-rata).

How we work

All our social work teams comprise of managers, social workers and support workers. Excellent partnership working is a feature of all our services with well-established professional relationships within BCP Council services, partner agencies, other areas of children’s services.

We use a child-centred practice model and all staff are offered training and support to embed this into their work with children and their families.

Full induction and access to our academy, and an active invitation to join our learning community.

We offer a structured approach with supported orientation, shadowing opportunities as well as well as learning opportunities, and mentoring.

We will work with you to ensure there is a balanced approach to managing your workload. This includes manageable numbers of allocated children and young people, which is not about numbers here in BCP Council, but is focussed on people, need and complexity weighting.

Continuing professional development

You will be encouraged to develop your skills through training, group supervision and reflective practice workshops. We work closely with Bournemouth University within our Teaching Partnership which has a well-established post-qualifying programme of learning that we support our practitioners to take advantage of. This supports career development and dedicated CPD time is available.

Quality reflective supervision

Dedicated and regular 1:1 supervision with your professional line manager; group supervision and annual appraisals.

Open communication

We have open communication between senior leadership and front-line practitioners through our Progress Forum, regular team meetings, all colleague events and regular virtual meetings. We value our workforce and discuss issues so we can problem solve together.

Supporting your development

Whether you are a newly qualified social worker seeking your first post for your Assessed and Supported Year in Employment, or a more experienced social worker or manager, we provide a full range of continued professional development (CPD) opportunities and meet Social Work England standards.

We provide a comprehensive induction and training programme and opportunities to develop specialist knowledge and skills for your service area.

You will be encouraged to develop your skills through learning opportunities group supervision and reflective practice workshops.

We work closely with Bournemouth University within our Social Work Teaching Partnership which has a well-established post-qualifying programme of learning that we support our practitioners to take advantage of, as well as online Masterclasses and opportunities to get involved in teaching and supporting students.

We have a well-established practice education pathway and student programme. To support your continued professional development (CPD) we are member of Research in Practice and you will have access to the online learning resource Community Care Inform.
